Have you ever considered going to school somewhere other than your home town? Do you wonder which Universities are the best and offer international exchange programs? Here are the top universities in Brazil that you can consider:
Also known as the University of Brazil, UFRJ is the largest public university in the country. Continually operating since 1792, it was also the first official institution of higher education. It is considered one of the centers of Brazilian excellence in research and teaching, and in terms of artistic, cultural, and scientific productions. It has been nationally and internationally recognized because of its excellent assessments and reviews regarding its outstanding researchers and teachers. UFRJ offers 157 undergraduate and 580 postgraduate courses, and hosts nine hospitals, seven museums, 43 libraries, and hundreds of labs and research facilities.
This is one of the largest public universities in the country with approximately 90,000 students and is the alma mater of twelve Brazilian Presidents. It was founded in 1934 and has eleven campuses, four in the city. Today, USP offers 247 undergraduate programs, 239 graduate programs, and five hospitals. It also hosts two theaters, a cinema, an orchestra, a TV station, and 24 museums and galleries. USP welcomes a half million visitors a year from all continents.
Commonly called Unicamp, this public research university is also one of the best in the country and located in Sao Paulo. Founded in 1962, Unicamp was created as a research center with almost half of its students in graduate school – offering 153 graduate programs and 70 undergraduate degrees. The campus is uniquely designed with the student service buildings, restaurants, and the main library in a circle, with the academic buildings radiating from the center. Best of all, like other Brazilian public Universities, the state government provides almost all funding. Therefore, no administrative or tuition fees are charged for any Unicamp student programs.
Founded in 1927, this University is located in the city of Belo Horizonte. It has a student population of 49,250 and offers 75 undergraduate degrees, 79 graduate programs, 57 Ph.D. programs, and degrees in Medicine, Law, Engineering, Economics, Art, and Science, among others. UFMG is located in the neighborhood of Pampulha and is divided into three main campuses – Health Sciences in Central Belo Horizonte, Rural Sciences Institute in Montes Claros, and the Pampulha Campus. This campus includes 38 buildings, scientific research labs, and a nuclear reactor. There is also a forest area nearby where research is carried out by zoologists and ecologists and is home to a number of species of insects.
UFRGS is a Federal University located in Porto Alegre and is one of the top-rated Universities in Brazil because of the number of scientific papers it publishes. It hosts more than 2,500 professors, 27,000 undergraduate students, and 9,300 grad students. Because it is a federal public institution, there are no fees or tuition, however, to be admitted to the school, students must pass a yearly competitive exam.
College and university students are often known to be short on cash. Lucky for you, parents, family, and friends are used to getting a call for help. Your loved ones can send money to Brazil easily and securely online. Just be sure to say “thanks”!
