If you ask any seasoned world traveler where is the best value country for travels in Central America, you will often hear the answer “Honduras” without fail. Some might say that it’s off the beaten track but that’s what attracts adventurous travelers to this second largest country in Central America. Don’t expect to shop and dine like you will do in the Big Apple but what you will find here is simply magnetically enchanting in a natural way. If you are looking for great tourist destinations to visit in Honduras, check out these gems:

Parque Nacional Jeannette Kawas

It’s a picture of the gorgeous sea meeting the lush green forest here. If you prefer the sea life, then you will absolutely enjoy snorkeling near the coral reefs. For those who love to explore wildlife in a tropical jungle, then you will not be disappointed with the large variety of flora and fauna that resides in the Micos Lagoon and the Bay of Tela.

Copán Ruins

Plenty of travel guides on the net will mention the Copán Ruins as a must-go destination in Honduras, and they are not wrong in doing that. Stipulated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site, there is so much to explore here that you will not be able to see the ruins of this Mayan City within a day. It’s best to give yourself a few more days here so that you can also visit the deeply symbolic tunnels that are hidden under the ruins. History lovers and archaeological fanatics will absolutely fall in love with this unique travel site.

The most developed section of the Bay Islands is Roatán, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to its shores. There are a couple of beaches that you can relax at while snorkeling and diving are the main activities that you can partake in here. You can also visit the Arch’s Iguana and Marine Park if you want to get away from the beach for the day. Anglers will also love Roatán due to the excellent deep sea fishing opportunities that can be found here.

Museo Para la Identidad Nacional

For travelers who want to understand the Honduran culture better, then you have to take a trip to the Museo para la Identidad Nacional, simply meaning Museum of National Identity. There are art pieces, historical artefacts, and cultural collections that you can find here, and if you have toured the museum well, it’s highly likely that you will leave this site with a good understanding of how people in Honduras has lived since the pre-Hispanic times.

Although most beach-loving travelers will choose to go to Roatán for diving excursions, one of the hidden travel gems in Honduras is Utila, which is the smallest and arguably cheapest destination in the Bay Islands. There is also an Utila Village here where you can mingle with the locals and enjoy a unique experience for your seaside vacation.
