Teacher’s Day is celebrated every year on October 15 in Brazil. This date has some historical significance. On this day in 1827, Emperor Pedro I signed a law that created the Imperial Elementary Education in Brazil, making education accessible to everyone. Since then, the system of education in Brazil has improved significantly, but the holiday wasn’t created until later. On October 15 in 1947, four teachers at a small school in Rua Augusta organized a day of parade to celebrate education and plan curriculum for the year ahead. In subsequent years, other schools picked up the idea, and the Brazilian government designated October 15th as the official Teacher’s Day in 1963.
Teachers and educators all over the country are celebrated on this day by parents and students. Feliz Dia dos Professores!
